Prevention of Severe Ovarian Cancer courses — what to do?

Ovarian cancer, a rare gynecological cancer, the causes of which are largely unknown.

How can a society, how can each individual position themselves?

Professor Dr. med. Jalid Sehouli sketches on the subject of ovarian cancer

Around 7,500 women per year develop ovarian cancer in Germany every year, but this disease is completely unknown to most of those affected and their families. The quality of the treatment has a direct influence on the prognosis of the disease, both surgical and drug therapy is meant here. The involvement in clinical studies is also a guarantee for the quality and competence of the therapists and offers those affected additional innovative treatment options.

Nevertheless, the current involvement of those affected in Germany is completely unsatisfactory. The Ovarian Cancer Foundation works to ensure that patients and their relatives as well as all those involved in the health system are better and more specifically informed about this disease.

Informing those affected with ovarian cancer about all treatment options and their alternatives with all their effects on the prognosis but also on personal life in everyday life is the indispensable basis for any therapy decision.
There are considerable deficits here for various reasons. The Ovarian Cancer Foundation works to ensure that the education of patients and their relatives about the disease and the individual treatment steps is significantly improved. Strengthen research

Experts discuss at a symposium of the North-East German Society for Gynecological Oncology (NOGGO e.V.)

In recent years, the treatment results for ovarian cancer have improved significantly on the basis of studies, but the long-term results for women with ovarian cancer are still unsatisfactory. The majority of women with ovarian cancer are only recognized at an advanced stage of the tumor and die of the disease. For this reason, research activities in the field of ovarian cancer must be decisively intensified; both preclinical and clinical research projects must be designed.
The Ovarian Cancer Foundation works to ensure that innovative research projects on tumor biology, diagnostics, therapy and aftercare are systematically funded. More information at: www.studienportal-eierstockkrebs.de and www.noggo.de
